 2017 Preview

Valley Head finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-6 record. Last year Valley Head just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region six with a 2-4 region record.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Valley Head averaged scoring just 12.8 points a game.

Since 2010, Valley Head has gone a combined 30-39. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 1A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Valley Head has managed to compile a record of 96-161. Their 37.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 1A and 300th in the AHSAA.

The Tigers are led by head coach Brian Knapp who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-6 record in his first season at Valley Head. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Knapp.

Coach Knapp's overall record as a head football coach in nine season stands at 29-59 (33.0%).

The Valley Head Tigers will play in Class 1A region six during the 2017 season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Tigers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, Valley Head will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Tigers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Ider on Friday, September 1 at Wayne C. Hardiman Stadium. Last year the Ider Hornets finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 2A region six. The Hornets closed out the regular season with a loss to Sylvania by a score of 49-21.

Valley Head and Ider have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 31-30-1 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2016 with Ider winning by a score of 30-0.
